Chapter 1980
Exhausted from work, Janet got into Brandon’s car. His eyelids drooped as he settled.
“A long day?” Brandon asked, worry etched on his face. “You could have delegated the design to Tasha and Lexi, you know.”
Janet shook her head. «Mrs. Walton expressly asked me. “It would be unprofessional to hand it over to him.”
By the second afternoon, Janet had finished the designs. As he left the office, he said to Lexi, “Call Mrs. Walton and tell her the design is ready. Ask if it’s available to review here.
Lexi nodded and dialed the number. Moments later, he returned.
“Mrs. Walton can’t come,” Lexi reported. «He is playing cards with some friends. But he is going to send a driver to take you to his house so you can show your design there.
“Okay,” Janet said, picking up the designs.
When Janet arrived, Mrs. Walton greeted her warmly. “I’m very sorry for the inconvenience.”
Janet smiled kindly. “No problem. Turns out he was free.”
Mrs. Walton shook Janet’s hands. «The ladies here are eager to see your design. They have been waiting to meet you. “Maybe this is a good opportunity to introduce yourself.”
Inside, Janet presented the design for Mrs. Walton’s dress. The room erupted in praise, everyone praising her elegance and style.
Seeing his excitement, Mrs. Blake chimed in, “My birthday is coming up. Would you be available to design a dress for me too?
Janet smiled ruefully. “I’m overworked right now, Mrs. Blake. But I have two talented designers in my studio. “I can guide you through creating a design for you.”
Mrs. Blake hesitated. “New designers… I don’t know them.”
Mrs. Walton chimed in: “Janet will oversee the design process. “You won’t be disappointed.”
Reassured by Ms. Walton, Ms. Blake accepted.
Janet was thrilled to get this opportunity for Lexi and Tasha.
As snack time approached, Janet politely got up. «It’s getting late. I wouldn’t want to delay you for tea. “I should go.”
Mrs. Walton pressed: “Nonsense. Please stay for tea. Before his expectant eyes, Janet found it difficult to refuse. «Well, if they insist. Thank you”.
A servant brought the dessert and placed it carefully on the table.
Just as Janet leaned over to speak to Mrs. Walton, a scream pierced the air. It came from Mrs. Blake.
Janet and Mrs. Walton turned their heads. There was a large splash of coffee staining Mrs. Blake’s pristine white dress.
Fury contorted Mrs. Blake’s features. The dress had arrived only a few days ago.
The servant bowed deeply, apologizing. «I am very, very sorry. “It was all my fault.”
Mrs. Blake turned pale, but one look at the servant’s tattered clothes extinguished the flames. It was clear that the woman could not afford to replace the dress. He looked at the maid’s aged face and murmured, “Forget it. “Be more careful next time.”
With that, she seemed ready to head home and deal with the coffee stain.
Mrs. Walton, fearing a rift with Mrs. Blake over the clumsiness of a servant, spoke quickly. «That was an oversight. “You’re fired.”
The servant’s voice was familiar. Janet raised her head and froze. It was Hannah.
